Ronald N. Gaster, MD, FACS

Beverly Hills Ophthalmologist

Ronald N. Gaster, MD, FACS was named by US News and World Report as a Top Doctor and Most Compassionate Doctor, named by the Orange County Medical Association as a Top Doctor, included in Southern California SuperDoctors, and selected by his peers for inclusion in the Best Doctors in America.

Dr. Gaster offers his patients the latest, most technologically advanced surgeries and treatments as a board-certified, fellowship-trained ophthalmologist in Beverly Hills, California and Orange County, California.

At Dr. Gaster’s two convenient practices, he treats patients suffering from a wide variety of conditions including diseases of the cornea such as keratoconus and Fuchs’ dystrophy, cataracts, pterygia, dry eyes, and trauma.

Dr. Gaster’s unique combination of skill and experience as an ophthalmologist allows him to be on the cutting edge of the latest eye disease and surgery developments. He is an international expert in Corneal Cross-Linking, also known as CXL, or Collagen Cross-Linking.

He specializes in blade-less, All-Laser LASIK surgery that only utilizes lasers instead of metal blades, resulting in safer surgery and a faster recovery period, often with 20/20 or better vision. He uses the Femtosecond laser to make the corneal flap and the Allegretto or VISX laser to perform the ablation to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.

Dr. Gaster is now offering the latest, most advanced laser refractive surgery procedure called SMILE (small incision lenticule extraction). This procedure uses one laser, the Zeiss VisuMax Laser, to create a small sliver of tissue in the cornea which is then carefully removed and can treat nearsightedness up to -10 D.

For small incision cataract surgery, Dr. Gaster uses the femtosecond laser for the cataract and astigmatic incisions and to soften the cataract, and utilizes Advanced Technology intraocular lenses or the Toric lens for correction of astigmatism, as appropriate. He performs his surgeries only at state-of-the-art surgery centers and only with the latest advanced technology.

Dr. Gaster also treats dry eyes with the newest technologies including tear osmolarity testing, lid margin debridement, Meibomian gland expression, IPL (Intense Pulsed Light), and LipiFlow for Meibomian gland dysfunction.

Dr. Ronald Gaster is known as a leading ophthalmologist in Orange County and Beverly Hills, California, and has been voted by other ophthalmologists for the last twenty years to be in the prestigious Best Doctors in America. He was named by US News and World Report in their Top Doctors edition.

He was also chosen by the Orange County Medical Association as a Physician of Excellence, as a Top Doctor in Orange County, and named a Southern California SuperDoctor by Los Angeles Magazine.

Dr. Gaster has also taught ophthalmic microsurgery courses for many years and was recently honored with the prestigious American Academy of Ophthalmology Honor Award and the American Academy of Ophthalmology Achievement Award.

Dr. Gaster is also a Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the Jules Stein Eye Institute at the UCLA School of Medicine and at the Gavin Herbert Eye Institute, University of California, Irvine. He has trained hundreds of residents and Corneal Fellows and continues to teach them at UCI.

Dr. Gaster genuinely enjoys building lasting, trusting relationships with his patients, and seeing the dramatic transformation they undergo after having their vision restored or enhanced.
